I started my career in the IT Industry 25 years ago graduating from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1996 with a Bsc (Hons) degree in Information Systems for Business. After travelling for eighteen months, I settled in Brighton and met my husband whilst working together selling IT Systems. Six years ago, we decided to have a complete career change and started working in the bakery industry. One very steep learning curve later, we now own and run a production & manufacturing bakery called Foodhaven down in Newhaven on the Sussex coast. Together with the bakery, we run three retail bakery cafes called Bake Out, based in the Sussex towns of Lewes, Hassocks & Southwick. We hand produce bread & pastry products daily, from our Foodhaven bakery, supplying both our retail shops and wholesale customers. Earlier this year we were very proud and thrilled to win the prestige award of ‘Britain’s Best Loaf’ with our seeded sourdough. As co-owner of the bakery I am involved in all areas of the business making my job very varied and interesting. Although not formally trained in the bakery industry, the experience and knowledge I have gained over the last six years, working alongside highly skilled bread bakers & pastry chefs has been invaluable. I am passionate about baking and am delighted to be one of the judges at the British Bakers Christmas Stars 2018.
